St Nicolas du Port, Basilique

w.25 - A "grisaille" window, i.e. essentially painting on glass, dating originally from 1544 although about half of it is modern (i.e.1848). It seems probable that it was originally designed for a non-ecclesiastical setting and was transferred here after the damage of 1635. The donor was Hanus Bermand a rich merchant in the town, whose wife Isabellion Sabvoye appears in the right hand light. The Classical subjects are inspired by engravings of Lambert Suavius of Liège
