The window of the Triumphs of Petrarch

(Photographed at the Cité du Vitrail at Troyes in 2015)

1502 and 1537

Commissioned in 1502 by Jeanne le Clerc, widow of Pierre Giraudin a bailiff of Ervy, the window illustrates in allegorical form the Triumphs as featured by the Italian poet Petrarch. At that time the theme of the Immaculate Conception was being developed in France with Mary as the instrument of the Redemption and guide to the Triumphs of the path of life.

(This is the central 3 lights of a 5-light window, the outer two sections of 1537 are being restored)
