South chapel east window

C16 French glass, probably from St John, Rouen.




In the centre the two oval panels are of French C16 glass (acquired in the 1973) and are said to be of Joseph of Aramathea (above) asking Pilate (below) for the body of Christ.


The two other panels are related to the panels in the next window (sVII) and belong to a C16 series of panels from France depicting the Life of St John. Here the priest Aristodemus tries out a poison on two unfortunate people (right panel) before giving it to St John who not only survives but revives the other two (left panel)
